I just finished reading “Hollowland” and “Hollowmen” by Amanda Hocking.
Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way – not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.
I have to admit that the story line isn’t one I thought I would enjoy. However, it sounded interesting. I fully expected it to be one of those books that I had to force myself to finish. I believe I have a complex in that no matter how much I dislike a book, if I start it I HAVEto finish it. What if I stopped reading and Just missed where the book becomes interesting to me?
Yeah, I’m special like that. I’m not too ashamed to admit it.
So honestly I got really into these books. Granted there were a TON of spelling mistakes, And the grammar was at times absolutely repulsive. I will say also, that the single sex scene per book, which thankfully wasn’t TOO graphic was both unnecessary and felt out of place (like she had to fit it in there somewhere for the book to sell?) but the over all story line was good.
My biggest complaint in this moment is that the last book was published in 2011 and there has been a series of graphic novels released, but I’ve found no talk of a third book in the series. I definitely don’t feel like there was any closure to the story. The end of “Hollowmen” has left me wanting more. And not in the happy filled with anticipation way…
Over all the books were good. They are easy reads. I finished both books in 4 hours. They carry a decent story line that is enjoyable as long as you can look past the poor grammar and all the typos. So if you aren’t too picky and/or are looking for a quick read these books definitely fill those needs. I would recommend them cautiously. So don’t blame me if you read them and don’t like them! I totally warned you.
